Understanding your Self in parts

If you could visualize your younger self, what emotions would she express?

Step into a gentle space for your inner world. Using art as a guide, consider each image as a younger representation of your self and connect to the feelings it evokes for you

What does it feel like, to make eye contact? When was the last time you held someone's gaze for a prolonged period of time? What emotions does it evoke inside you?

Did you grow up with siblings? What was it like to take care of them? What did it feel like to be a younger  or an older sibling? Were there others in your family that you learned to take care of?

How are you feeling in this moment? Where do you feel that in your body?

How are you feeling in this moment? Where do you feel that in your body?

Do you dream when you sleep? Is it hard for you to fall asleep at night?

How do you experience your mother?

When you love someone, how does your younger self show it?

What do you remember about being held as a child? Does it feel good to hold someone's hand? Do you long for physical touch or do you need more alone time?

When was the last time you laughed with a sense of joy?

Using art to visualize the inner world through the lense of Internal Family Systems

All of these images are a series that I drew when I was getting to know my parts through Internal Family systems. I see this method as a way that one can safely meet their protective parts, tender exiles, and calm Self at the core with gentle curiosity. This process gives a voice to those wordless feelings that have been tucked away for years. Working with art allows us to offer compassion to our systems, helping wounded parts unburden and shift into a state of harmony. It is a simple way to see ourselves clearly and heal from the inside out.
